New Years Resolutions!
Happy New Year!
With welcoming in a New Year, comes new resolutions!
What are yours? To eat more healthily? To take up a new hobby? Or perhaps it is to spend more quality time with family and friends?
But have you considered including your beloved dog into your new years promises?
There are ways that you both could really benefit from spending a little extra time with each other.
A great resolution to make is to establish a daily grooming routine with your dog.
Just like all the different breeds, a dog’s coat can vary hugely. Some breeds will require thorough daily brushing, whereas others may not need so much. But grooming your dog each day has many benefits. And by grooming, I mean not only brushing, but checking and cleaning their ears, checking their mouth and teeth, and checking their feet, nails and in their pads.
Aside from the obvious benefits of less shed hair on the floor, a healthy and glossy coat, and keeping knots at bay, it can also be a great way to bond with your dog.
It also allows you to feel over your dog and notice any changes to their body. Any lumps and bumps, or areas that seem painful. Early detection of these issues can often mean a better prognosis.
Brushing your dog at an early age is strongly advised as it gets them used to the necessary process of brushing, and allow it to become a pleasurable task for both you and the dog, rather than a stressful one.
Teeth brushing is also important with our dogs. The benefit of keeping your dog’s teeth and gums healthy will benefit them hugely, especially in later years. It can also prevent bad breath in dogs, as a common cause for smelly breath is gum disease.
If you are unsure of how to go about brushing your dog’s teeth, or need advice on what you should be looking for when carrying out a daily heath check in your dog, or even what brushes and combs are best to use, then please don’t hesitate to contact me. I would be very happy to arrange a visit to the salon (free of charge) and advise on whatever is required.
